Jane Austen Retellings

Our online dramatic reading of “Jane Austen’s Juvenilia: Wicked Funny” on 9/20/20 was attended by JASNA members from around the country and Canada. Wicked Funny Video links to the 32 minutes video. This play is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Jack and Alice,” “The Three Sisters,” and “Love and Freindship” from the Juvenilia. The three acts explore the themes of virtue and vice, the marriage plot, and the problems with excessive sensibility. Wicked Funny was adapted by Michele Larrow, and this version was written in 2020. Thanks to all of our wonderful actors who entered into the spirit of the wickedly funny Juvenilia and brought Austen’s wonderful writing to life.

Sara Thompson suggested to following YouTube videos:

Crows Eye Productions – the videos I thought members would be interested in are the dressing videos.  https://www.youtube.com/user/CrowsEyeProductions

This is a really funny video about pockets – https://youtu.be/owy6MWgSoEI

English Heritage – this is the official British Museum organization.  They, too, bounce around timelines but I love their Victorian series with Mrs. Crocombe

Last one is Townsends – they cover a wide range of topics but stick to the 18th century.  Their cooking series is amazing.  https://www.youtube.com/user/jastownsendandson
