What Makes a Good Retelling of a Jane Austen Work?
Sunday September 19, 2021 2:30-4:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Zoom
Join us for a discussion of our favorite retellings, variations, or fan fiction of Jane Austen’s works. Do you enjoy a story in a new time period or a different culture or one that focuses on a different character’s point of view? Do you like a mystery, a romance, a sequel, or a completion of an unfinished work? We’ll discuss what we love about these adaptations and how they make us think about the novels differently. We have several volunteers who will present a short synopsis of their favorite works. We will all discuss our favorite retellings and why we love them after the initial presentations. If you want to come and just listen, that is great too. The meeting is free and open to all. We will email the Zoom link to those who register a day before the event.

‘What think you of books?’ said he, smiling.
‘Books–Oh! no.–I am sure we never read the same, or not with the same feelings.’
‘I am sorry you think so; but if that be the case, there can at least be no want of subject.–We may compare our different opinions. ‘”Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
